I was once confused with the term “BitTorrent.” I know about the peer-to-peer file distribution client that goes by that name but I was unaware that it was also the name of the file sharing protocol itself. To my surprise, I found out that both the p2p client and the protocol were both created by
Bram Cohen. His creation, the BitTorrent, was designed to distribute large amounts of data without consuming too much bandwidth and server resources.
Unlike
other peer-to-peer clients, BitTorrent does not have a search option in its system. If you want to find a torrent file, you must search it on the different
search engines found in the web, such as Yahoo or Google. File downloads on the BitTorrent relies on the upstream bandwidth of its users. The more BitTorrent users online, the easier and faster the file downloads progresses. To start your download, you must first find a torrent and before you can run it on your BitTorrent client software. A great feature of torrent download is that you don’t have to download all the files in a bundle, you can choose which files you want to have and that’s all your client will download.
